Kiskadden Photography: North Eastern United States

There are many things that I love about the Northeast. The weather is not really one of them, but oh well. There are some really cool cities up there. New York, of course, but Boston is also nice and I recently went to Philly for a while and really enjoyed that city as well. All of the great murals blew me away and how can you get through life without trying a for-real Philly Cheese steak with the Whiz! Most of my time in this part of the coutry was, however, spent in the seneic areas of western Massachusetts with some time spent in Vermont and Upstate New York. Since I was in grad school (ZooMass) at the time, I didnt really get to spend to much time out of Amherst, a mistake I still regret. Well, thats life and a lesson I needed to learn on top of my school work: Never let life pass you by. Here are some pictures from my time there. One day I hope to get back to do a little more work up in Vermont, New Hampshire, and especailly Maine, but this will have to do for now.

New York, New York

New York, New York, New York! Since I have not yet gotten the chance to visit some of the worlds other mega-cities, NYC defines the urban environment for me. And, I think that it is probably a tough act to follow. There is just a pulse on the streets of New York that I have never felt anywhere else in my travels around the world..

Boston, Massachusetts

Bean Town- home of the hated Red Sox (yesssss, I admit it, I'm a Yankees Fan! Go Yankees!). Still, sucky baseball team aside, a really great town with some interesting archatecture and even more interesting road system. Seriously, sometiems I wonder about the people who are in chage of Bostons road system, especially the infamous Big Dig. To make up for that, the North End is way cool and when I used to visit Boston we would always hit the North End for at least one meal.

Amherst, Massachusetts

Yep, Amherst. I spent four years in this town living in the infamous P{uffton Village while persuing my PhD at UMass. I can't really complain too much, though. I mean, the apartment, built as temoprary housing for people helping a major University construction effort in the 1960's, had places where the wall and the floor didn't connect to eachother and cool air could pour in and the kids in the 'hoop had a fondness for setting dumpsters on fire, but in the end it was'nt all that bad. Just kind of a small town, really.

North Hampton, Massachusetts

North Hampton, or NoHo in the local parlance, was where us Amherst types went when we did'nt want to hang out at the frat/jock bars of Amherst. Perhaps there was more culture in NoHo because of the all womens school (Smith) in the area. Not that you could easily pick these girls up (at least in my expierence), but at least it was something different to do when you were bored with your own small town. I remeber once, during my second month in Amherst, I was in NoHo with a guy who would become a great friend and, after going to the half dozen bars in town, he looked at me and asked "Now what?". Thats when small town fever reall began to set in!

Millers Falls, Massachusetts

Millers Falls is a cool little town not far from Amherst that I "found" one day was aimlessly driving around and trying to avoid school work. I had to come back after I saw the water fall that the town was named after.
