The things I think about when I think of the South: Biscuits and Gravy! Why can't I find this anywhere else in the country- or at least find it as good as it is in the south! Next, of course, is BBQ. Now, whwn talking to a Southener, one must remember that every state- and even regions within a state- has its own BBQ methods. Me, I'm partial to the vinegary Eastern NC BBQ like thay have at Smithfields. Also, I miss hush puppies. So many simple pleasures in life. But, you didnt come here to talk about food, so click on the links below to check out some photographs from the South.
Charlotte- the city I spent the later part of my youth in. I still remember it from my High School Days before Bank of America moved there and the face of the city changed from kind of an old-south to more of an Atlanta knock off...
I spent a great deal of my life in Raleigh since for six years I was a student at North Carolina State University. Again, the town is changing fast. I remember the old days of Hillsborough Street where things still had a kind of grungy gritty feel to them. Now, its all about Starbucks and other chains, but I still remember some of the old places, like Cup-a-Joes which was furnished entierly with thrift store furnature and you could smoke in the whole place (not that thats a good habit ot have of course...). The place is still there but the feel is different. I onnly wish I had discovered photography eaarlier!
My parents own a house on the Outter Banks which has, luckly, not been destroyed by a hurricane. Yet, anyway. So, when I was in High School the family went there often and then at NCSU I went with just friends (which was much more fun!). Unfortunatly, as I move furhter and further away from NC I get to go to our beach home less and less often. Going to the OBX is on of the main things I miss from NC.
